Standard vs instant indexing
Published · By IndexChex
Standard indexing submits URLs at the lowest credit cost and lets crawling and indexing play out over hours to a few days. Instant, or priority, indexing costs many times more per URL and aims to have pages indexed within minutes. Standard suits bulk link profiles; instant suits a few time-sensitive pages.
Two submission tiers
Most paid indexing services sell at least two speeds. The cheaper tier, usually called standard, is designed for volume: large batches, low per-URL cost, and results that build up over a day or more. The expensive tier, called instant, priority or VIP depending on the vendor, is designed for urgency: small batches, a much higher per-URL cost and a target of indexing within minutes.
Both tiers rely on the same underlying idea described in how backlink indexers work: generating signals that lead Googlebot to fetch the URL. What differs is how much effort is spent per URL and how strongly the service pushes for an index decision rather than only a crawl.
Side-by-side
| Attribute | Standard | Instant |
|---|---|---|
| Typical goal | Get a large link profile crawled and mostly indexed | Get a few URLs into results the same day |
| Relative cost | Baseline | Many times baseline |
| Batch size | Large | Small |
| When results show | Hours to a few days | Minutes |
| Best fit | Guest posts, citations, profiles, tier-two links | News, launches, time-limited offers, client escalations |
Vendors do not use identical definitions, and comparisons of competitor tiers with prices and dates are kept on the comparison site rather than here.
How the two modes work at IndexChex
IndexChex, which publishes this wiki, offers both tiers plus a drip-fed variant of standard:
- Standard costs 1 credit per URL, takes up to 10,000 URLs per job, and completes jobs within 24 hours. Its documentation describes pages starting to index 5 to 12 hours after the job completes, most indexed URLs appearing 24 to 48 hours after the crawl, and indexing being about as complete as it will get by day 5.
- Instant costs 60 credits per URL and takes up to 1,000 URLs per job.
At pack and plan prices, standard works out between $0.0014 and $0.0044 per URL; instant between roughly $0.084 and $0.26. The full price structure is on the pricing models page.
IndexChex measures both modes weekly on recurring URL sets. As of October 2026 the averages were:
| Measure | Standard | Instant |
|---|---|---|
| Average time to first Googlebot crawl | Under 2 minutes | Under 2 minutes |
| Average indexation | 85%+ for typical sites, links and citations | 95%+ within 5 to 10 minutes |
These are averages from the vendor's own measurement, not guarantees, and no tool can promise indexation because that is Google's decision. The observatory entry on instant-mode rates explains how the figure is produced.
Why crawl speed is not the whole story
A notable feature of the measurements above is that first crawl is about equally fast in both modes. The gap appears afterwards. Getting Googlebot to fetch a page is the easy part; getting Google to keep that page in its index depends on whether it looks worth keeping. The difference between those two steps is covered in crawling vs indexing.
Instant modes generally spend more on signals that suggest a page matters, which is why they cost more and why their indexation rates and timings are better. Standard modes rely more on Google's normal processing, which is slower and leaves more pages in states such as "crawled, currently not indexed".
Choosing a mode
A simple decision rule:
- Is there a deadline measured in hours? Use instant for those URLs only.
- Is the batch larger than a few dozen ordinary backlinks? Use standard; the cost difference is large and most pages index within days.
- Would a sudden spike of links look unnatural? Use drip feed, which spreads a standard job over time.
- Did some URLs fail in standard? Check why before paying for instant. Thin, duplicate or
noindexpages will not be rescued by a more expensive submission; see why backlinks don't get indexed.
Whichever mode is used, the outcome should be confirmed with an independent index check rather than the submission report; verifying backlink indexation explains how. The broader category these modes belong to is defined in what is a backlink indexer.
FAQ
Is instant indexing worth the extra cost?
For a small number of pages where same-day visibility matters, such as a news piece or a launch page, often yes. For hundreds of ordinary backlinks, standard mode reaches most of the same pages for a fraction of the credits.
Does instant mode guarantee indexing?
No. Both modes guarantee only that Googlebot crawls the URL. Google still decides whether the page is indexed.
Do both modes get crawled at the same speed?
In IndexChex's weekly measurements on recurring URL sets (October 2026), first crawl averaged under 2 minutes in both modes. The difference is mainly how quickly and reliably a crawl becomes an index entry.
